Behavioral Ecology and Notes on Improvements
[edit]The page leaves much to be desired. Besides completely lacking structural organization, the page additionally lacks any detail besides simple general tidbits, resulting in a general lack of conceptualization of the species. The overview includes incredibly limited information on a general description of the bird, its habitat, behavior, status, and interaction in culture, however excludes completely any information on taxonomy. While the article mentions briefly the black plumage of the males, their characteristic coloring, the lack of a picture representing both sexes is misleading. Furthermore, lark buntings provide an interesting example of mate choice varying with year, where females’ preference can be focused on the blackness of the males’ coloring, the size of its wing patch, or size of its beak. This phenomenon should be developed in the species page, as the rapidly changing sexual selection is particularly unique and interesting in this species. It also illustrates how female choice variation through the years could maintain the genetics behind several male sexual ornaments. Additionally, the lark bunting is the state bird of Colorado. Because of its cultural context, it should be expected that additional information could be provided. I feel that it’s grading of quality at “start” is quite generous due to its lack of structure and information. Samara levine (talk) 02:56, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
